    1. It depends on the need to be competitive with AA. Caterpillar business travel will need to recover and that company will probably have to help lure DL back to PIA if it is going to happen.

    I recall flying a one stop routing on Ozark MIA-IND-PIA. It might have been April 1980. Can you please confirm or perhaps I’m mistaken in the routing.

    I also recall flying MIA-BNA-STL. Perhaps in April 1979.

  5. Hi:

    I think in 1980 I flew Ozark on a onestop from MIA to PIA via IND. It would have been April 1980.

    I also think Ozark flew MIA-BNA-STL, in Spring 1979, as I recall taking this flight and stopping in BNA.

    Can you please confirm if my memory is correct? The MIA-IND-PIA, seems odd, but I do seem to recall that being the routing indeed.

    1. Ozark Air Lines began a daily DSM-PIA-IND-MIA itinerary on December 15, 1979. I believe it was discontinued February 1, 1980.

  7. CN is planning a major upgrade to its (assumed) line from Springfield to Kansas City. How will they connect the CN line with the KCS in Springfield? Right now, Norfolk Southern provides a connection. I don't think NS will be keen on all that new traffic on their line.

    1. If its planned merger with Kansas City Southern is approved by federal regulators, Canadian National plans to spend $250 million to create a viable route connecting Detroit and Chicago with Kansas City. Presently, CN has trackage rights along the joint UP-NS route from Iles to Hazel Dell, and UP-owned track to Cockrell (where KCS ownership starts) so it can serve an ADM Grain Co. elevator at Cockrell Station. A merger would most likely remove all barriers to through movements between CN and KCS lines. NS and UP could not prevent CN from adding traffic and multiple trains per day on this route. What I expect to happen, however, is that CN will make a deal with NS for a connection at Starnes (NE Springfield), enabling through traffic to shift to the future upgraded 10th Street corridor through town.
