Ask Peoria Station 5-28-19

Time for more Transportation Q & A!

Feel free to post your questions in the comments section on any transportation topic. If I don't have an answer, I'll find one.

For those interested, I am working on the next "PIA - A History" post. It will cover both 1997 and 1998. I returned from a trip to Florida yesterday, so I'm still catching up on things.

  1. Did you fly Allegiant to Florida?

I was rereading you older PIA-A History posts and didnt see anything on Northwest Orient's 1978 application to serve PIA. Maybe I missed it. I believe NW filed to fly MSP-PIA-ATL-MIA with 727-100 one time per day each direction. I dont think they won the case.

    1. After I considered flying Allegiant Air to Orlando-Sanford (then renting car for the remaining journey), I decided to drive.

I covered Northwest Orient's application in this post. Look under "Atlanta & Florida."

  2. A large amount of railroad ties are stacked near the grain elevator in Glasford. Looks to be enough for KJRY to restore rail service to the elevator. Wishful thinking?

    1. Wishful thinking, most likely. Pretty sure the ties are stacked there for installation on the main track.

  3. Landed in Peoria June 7th, there was an Atlas 767 parked by Byerly. Not long after deplaning a Sunwing 737 landed. I've seen a few Sunwings in and out of PIA over the last few weeks. Are these all Honor flight charters? And curious about the Atlas.

    1. That Atlas Air 767-300 operated as GTI 8208 on a MIA-SGF-PIA-PIT-HNN itinerary, arriving here at 12:16pm and departing at 5:16pm. That its' ultimate destination was Frankfurt-Hahn near Kirchberg, Germany makes be think this was a military charter, probably for an Army National Guard mission.

A Sun Country Airlines 737-800 was here that day for an Honor Flight to Washington, DC and return.
