Ask Peoria Station 9-10-21

Time for more Q&A. If I don't have an answer, I'll find one.

  1. A research question for you.

In 1979 and 1980 probably in April of both years I recall flying the following routings on Ozark

MIA-BNA-STL I think in 1979 and in 1980 MIA-IND-PIA. The last one is what im trying to really figure out. I know Ozark flew TPA-INA-PIA, but not MIA. Yet, I am certain my family and I flew MIA-IND-PIA, what I cant remember was if the flight was a one stop or a connection. Did Ozark every fly these two routes? Thanks

    1. Ozark began a daily MSP-PIA-IND-SDF roundtrip on July 1, 1974. Service was extended to Tampa on January 7, 1979. Effective April 27, 1980, BNA replaced SDF. The MSP-PIA-IND-BNA-TPA route operated until August 1, 1982 when DSM replaced PIA as a stop.

    2. Ozark flew DSM-PIA-IND-MIA daily effective December 15, 1979. I believe it operated through January 1980, but perhaps through April 26 that year. I need to check my timetables.

  2. Hey question, been awhile since I posted but went down Allen Rd the other day noticed the crossing that was added on by Peoria of UP for the industrial park that never really ever was used has bags over the lights like an exempt status so are the crossing gates on University. Has Pioneer move to abandon the line via STB?

    1. Line was officially designated "out of service" recently, so crossing signals are deactivated. This allows school buses and haz-mat trucks to cross without having to stop, look and listen before proceeding. I've not seen any abandonment application. The City of Peoria would have to be in mutual agreement.
