BNSF M-GALPEI and KJRY Local 4-27-23
I hadn't seen either of BNSF Peoria Sub manifests since January 7, and that one (M-GALPEI) I had to drive up to Douglas to capture before dark. Nearly four months later, I see both M-GALPEI's this week! It was good to see it.
CAPTION: BNSF Railway train M-GALPEI (Manifest, Galesburg IL to Peoria IL) rolls by W. Farmington Road late afternoon Thursday, April 27, 2023 as it nears the end of its journey. Later, the train is shown entering the Tazewell & Peoria Railroad at S. Darst Street. BNSF 7772 and BNSF 7115 have 41 cars (23 loads/18 empties) representing a variety of traffic - nitrogen fertilizer solution, zinc ingots, lumber, bagged salt, methyl chloride, molten petroleum asphalt and animal fat.
I could have captured the eastbound Keokuk Junction Railway local, but only after its set out for TP&W and Union Pacific at Collier Yard. So I decided to go to the downtown library instead. A heads up on social media on M-GALPEI prompted me to leave the library earlier than usual. The first scene of the KJRY video actually occurred before the second scene of the BNSF video.
Patriot Rail and prior management has done an excellent job drumming up business on the former TP&W West End. Recent wins resulting in new or increased traffic from Hitchcock Scrap Yard's Canton transload, Amsted Rail Griffin Wheel Division at Keokuk (BNSF switching) and Farmers Elevator Co at Sciota account for 34 of the train's 58 cars!
CAPTION: The Keokuk Junction Railway's Mapleton-East Peoria Turn is shown running its return leg early evening Thursday, April 27, 2023. CEFX 2014, LTEX 3848 and LTEX 6437 left the Tazewell & Peoria Railroad's East Peoria Yard with 22 cars and then added 36 cars at Collier Yard in Bartonville. The 15 Incobrasa Industries covered hoppers are brand new cars received from the TP&W for soybean loading at Sciota. The rest from Collier came from Union Pacific.
