Peoria Int'l Airport Breaks Another Record! (UPDATED)
Peoria Int'l Airport posted record last month!
Passenger tally for July 2025 was 80,836, a 26 percent increase over July 2024. It was also the first time PIA handled more than 80,000 passengers in one month. Several local media sites are covering this story, albeit with nearly identical content. A WEEK-TV 25 story came to my attention first.
It was no surprise that PIA posted a record in July. But traffic will be down in August due to seasonal cutbacks. It could be the best August ever, but it won't break any records.
That said, I have a challenge to the Metropolitan Airport Aurthority of Peoria: Release the data anyway. You don't have to break a record before providing monthly passenger traffic to the public.

😃 ‘ HOORAY! ’ ….. Keep it going, PIA air travelers.
ReplyDelete😯 David, Am I detecting skepticism about the figures or are you just seeking validation? I’m all for ‘ transparency ’ . However, I’m wondering if municipal airports can publicly disclose such figures without the commercial airlines’ consent?
ReplyDeleteI doubt it. Most of the time, PIA press releases on passenger traffic only occur if there is a record month. CIRA quietly reveals its yearly passenger stats many months into a new year. Board meeting minutes, far more detailed than PIA's, only offer percentage changes, rarely actual numbers.
ReplyDeleteI understand. ‘ Good Luck! ’
DeletePassenger stats are tracked by Federal government but reported a couple months late. Interesting that Allegiant is now nearly half of PIA traffic and Phoenix has such a strong showing. https://www.transtats.bts.gov/airports.asp?20=E&Nv42146=cVN&Nv42146_anzr=cr14vn,%20VY:%20Tr0r4ny%20Q190v0t%20-%20cr14vn%20V06r40n6v10ny&pn44vr4=SNPgf
ReplyDeleteWhen I match those with monthly stats, or accumulation of a year's worth, the numbers are slightly different that what PIA reports. I suspect PIA includes charter passengers as well, including two or three annual Honor Flights.
