Peoria Int'l Airport Action (Monday PM) 5-25-26 (Allegiant 737 MAX-8, American Eagle Retrojet Returns!)

Image
I caught a little action at Peoria Int'l Airport this evening. I arrived my spot with just seconds to spare for the Allegiant Air 737 MAX-8. The American Eagle retrojet returned, and I stayed awhile to record more action, including the MAX-8's departure. Judging by the passenger terminal parking lot, business is good at PIA! American Eagle Expands PIA-DFW!

Image
American Eagle is adding a third daily roundtrip between Peoria and Dallas/Ft. Worth. When I checked chnges on Charlotte and Chicago-O'Hare frequency and equipment early next month, I had not gotten far enough up the calendar to noticed that Envoy Airlines dba American Eagle is adding a late-morning turnaround to its schedule between Peoria and Dallas/Ft. Worth on Friday, April 4. Like the mid-afternoon turnaround and the Remain-Overnight (RON) flight, the new one will use 76-seat Embraer 175 equipment.  Although Charlotte service is cut from three to two roundtrips, Chicago-O'Hare gets three roundtrips, and now for the first time since larger, two-class equipment (initially Canadair CRJ900s) was introduced in February 2017, Dallas/Ft. Worth gets three roundtrips!  - David P. Jordan

PIA-CLT 3rd Roundtrip Happened; But Gone April 1

Image
Back in late-May I noticed online schedules showed PSA Airlines dba American Eagle adding a third roundtrip (late-morning turnararound) between Peoria and Charlotte on November 5.  I assumed the additional flight was added on that date but when I checked schedules sometime later, only two roundtrips were shown. I wondered if the expanded frequency even happened.  Apparently, it did, or had its start delayed.  Presently, the airline offers three daily roundtrips. A CRJ900 handles the late-morning turnaround and Remain-Overnight (RON) flights and a CRJ700 handles a late-afternoon turnaround. Unfortunately, on April 1, after its early-morning departure, the RON is discontinued, leaving one late-morning turnaround on CRJ900 and a late-afternoon turnaround on a CRJ700.  Peoria-Dallas/Fort Worth service remains unchanged with two daily roundtrips on Envoy Airlines Embraer 175 equipment.  - David P. Envoy Airlines dba American Eagle E-Jets Are Back!

Image
After about a month or so, E-Jets have returned to Peoria-Dallas/Ft. Worth nonstops! Around August 15, Envoy Airlines replaced PSA Airlines as American Eagle carrier on this route with both daily roundtrips using the 76-seat Embraer 175. For some reason, this afternoon's turnaround was operated by the slightly smaller (72-seat) Embraer 170.  A Commemorative Air Force RC-45J is shown taxiing to Runway 13 prior to the airliner's arrival. Shortly, it makes its takeoff roll.  CAPTION: A Commemorative Air Force RC-45J taxies to Runway 13 and then takes off. In between, we get the arrival of an Envoy Airlines dba American Eagle Embraer 170 from Dallas/Ft. Worth. - David P. Jordan

Peoria Int'l Airport in Mid-Afternoon, July 4, 2023

Wednesday, July 5, is the last full day for Embraer 175s on the Dallas/Ft. Worth-Peoria route. On Thursday, save for the morning departure, PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-900s takeover. Seating capacity is the same (76 seats), but variety will be less. CAPTION: Mid-afternoon at the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport, July 4, 2023. An Envoy Airlines dba American Eagle Embraer 175, operating Flt. # 3599 from Dallas/Ft. Worth, followed by a PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-900, operating Flt. # 5187 from Charlotte, arrived Runway 13 at 1447 and 1519 hours, respectively. Later, the E-Jet departs 13 at 1530 hours as Flt. # 3599 for Dallas/Ft. Worth. - David P. Jordan

Equipment Changes on PIA-CLT/DFW Routes

Image
An American Eagle Embraer 175LR on final to Chicago-O'Hare June 29, 2019. Envoy Airlines dba American Eagle has been operating these between Peoria and Dallas/Ft. Worth for about a month.  American Eagle has changed equipment on two of its three Peoria routes.  Since at least late-summer 2022, PSA Airlines dba American Eagle has been using 76-seat CRJ900s on its twice-daily Peoria-Charlotte nonstops. This is an upgrade from the 65/67-seat CRJ700s which have been normally used on this route since February 2019. It appears that the smaller equipment returns on March 26.  Since at least January 10, Envoy Airlines dba American Eagle has been operating a 76-seat Embraer 175 on the Peoria to Dallas/Fort Worth route's evening arrival/morning departure. On occasion, the slightly smaller Embraer 170 has been substituted. Mesa Airlines continues to operate the 76-seat CRJ900 on the afternoon turnaround.  Unlike the Charlotte flights, use by Envoy Airlines of its 175s will like...

Getting Back to Planespotting

Image
This afternoon, I was close to Peoria International Airport, so I decided to check the arrival lineup.  Turns out, Mesa Airlines dba American Eagle Flt# 5972, oprerated by a 76-seat Canadair CRJ900 twinjet, was enroute from Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas. I turned on my scanner to check airport information, quickly learning that only Runway 22 was being used for arrivals and departures on this warm Easter Sunday. That made the decision to wait for Mesa 5972 a lot easier. It arrived Peoria Int'l Airport at 1517 hours Sunday, April 4, 2021. I hope to resume planespotting this year. A trip to Chicago-O'Hare is in order.  - David P. Jordan
