BNSF Chillicothe Sub Action, UP-TP&W Grain MTs 10-6-24

The weather was nice but windy Sunday afternoon as I parked along BNSF's Chillicothe Subdivision.

The first train to show, an eastbound, was primarily intermodal but with a block of autoracks on the rear. The second, also eastbound, had seven reefers mid-train. I like that kind of variety. After a third eastbound, I moved from North Rice Road to Princeville to check for activity at the Seneca Foods plant (one boxcar on spot, two empties "constructively placed" on the siding). No sooner did the fourth eastbound cleared the crossing did a westbound show its face. After another westbound, I headed for home, and another adventure...

Train symbols in order are: S-CLOLPC1-04A (Port Stack Intermodal, Clovis NM to Logistics Park Center IL) Z-STOWSP7 (Priority UPS-LTL Intermodal, Stockton CA to Willow Springs IL) Z-PHXWSP8-04A (Priority UPS-LTL Intermodal, Phoenix AZ to Willow Springs IL) Z-LACWSP4-04U (Priority UPS-LTL Intermodal, Los Angeles/Hobart CA to Willow Springs IL) S-LPCLHA1-05L (Port Stack Intermodal, Logistics Park Center IL to Long Beach/Pier 400 CA) Z-CHISTO3-06A (Priority UPS-LTL Intermodal, Chicago/Corwith IL to Stockton CA)

CAPTION: Action on BNSF Railway's Chillicothe Subdivision early- to mid-afternoon Sunday, October 6, 2024. The first three trains, all eastbounds, are at N. Rice Road between Edelstein and Princeville, Illinois. The last three, one eastbound and two westbounds, are at Princeville. Note the westbound emerging from the behind the eastbound at Princeville.

Driving through East Peoria on Interstate 74, I noticed a Union Pacific grain train moving through town. The TP&W crew was handling it east along the Peoria Sub and toward the East Peoria Yard. Not sure if for Greenfield (Chenoa) or Clymers, Indiana.

CAPTION: A Toledo, Peoria & Western Railway crew Union Pacific train of grain empties rolls through East Peoria, Farmdale and at Ernest Street in Washington, Illinois late-afternoon Sunday, October 6, 2024. UP 2653, UP 2760 and UP 6198 are on the point.
