Canadian National L557 4-3-25

Heading to the downtown library, I made a side trip to the Tazewell & Peoria Railroad's East Peoria Yard and found the Canadian National local, L557, departing for Decatur. 
 
Out of curiosity, I re-watched (and re-counted) Tuesday's Iowa Interstate SIPE, suspecting that IAIS and CN have been exchanging heavy ADM traffic (or at least ADM empties). Below is a list of SIPE-01's train. An asterisk (*) denotes cars which ran through on today's CN local. L = Loads, E = Empties.

Because SIPE crossed the river and pulled north into the yard, these cars moved on today's L557 in three blocks and in reverse order.
 
So 41 of 68 cars on Tuesday's Iowa Interstate train from Silvis moved on today's 49-car CN local to Decatur. Eleven of these were loads. I can only guess these cars' contents, but given the likelihood they are from Cedar Rapids, some possibly corn germ loads for ADM's West Plant/grain oil refinery in Decatur seems likely. Corn screenings are another. I'm unsure why the 30 empties going south, as I don't believe Decatur sends grain or grain products in reverse direction (CN to IAIS) to Cedar Rapids, though anything is possible.

Union Pacific's LPD01 Derails Due to Vandals 11-18-24!

Union Pacific's LPD01 job leaves and departs Adams Street Yard in Peoria on July 1, 2024.   I hope the judge makes an example of these two clowns!   Union Pacific's LPD01 job was either going to or returning from Collier Yard to work the Keokuk Junction Railway and Toledo, Peoria & Western Railway interchanges. PIA - A History: Chicago & Southern Airlines Crash Oct. 21, 1971

The only fatal Peoria-area plane crash involving a scheduled air carrier occurred October 21, 1971 when Chicago & Southern Airlines Flight #804 went down while attempting to land in poor weather conditions. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) accident report can be viewed here , but I'll summarize the crash, what led up to it and the aftermath.  ILL-FATED FLIGHT #804 Chicago & Southern Airlines began flying between Peoria and Chicago's Meigs Field on July 7, 1969. Beech 18S and DHC-6 "Twin Otter" aircraft were used for its flights, the former type at Peoria. In 1970, C&S introduced an aircraft known as the ATECO Westwind II. It was a Beech 18S with heavy modifications including a seven-foot fuselage extension, two turboprop engines and a tri-cycle landing gear. An ATECO Westwind II operated ill-fated C&S Flight #804.
