Canadian National L557, Tazewell & Peoria RR Industry 4 (4-28-26)

I stumbled on something interesting this afternoon. I heard chatter about the CN local coming into the TZPR's East Peoria Yard (which I assumed to be power coming off the Team Track), and also IMRR 43 on Main 2 at Wesley. Turns out, Canadian National's local, L557, soon departed on Main 1 (as usual), passing IMRR 43, which was on the point of L556 from last night. I don't know if CN left the train on Main 2 because weather-related delays meant they had no time to yard the train, or the yard lacked room. 


CAPTION: Canadian National Railway train L557 (E. Peoria IL to Decatur IL) rolls out of the Tazewell & Peoria Railroad's East Peoria Yard late-afternoon Tuesday, April 28, 2026. CN 3192 has 47 cars. The lumber load up front was probably "turned" in the yard and is for Amerhart at Pekin.
 
Normally, L556 arrives East Peoria in darkness, so it was nice to catch the Tazewell & Peoria Railroad's "Industry 4" pull the consist through Wesley. The CN boxcar was loaded with zinc ingots for Liberty Steel & Wire Co's Wire Mill. A sodium hydroxide solution tank car is for PMP Fermentation Products. Also of note is that much of the train's 57 cars is ADM traffic (loads and empties) for interchange to Iowa Interstate, and possibly Union Pacific as well. Near the end a loaded tank car with ADMX markings lacks haz-mat placards. Soybean oil perhaps? 


CAPTION: The Tazewell & Peoria Railroad's "Industry 4" job pulled the inbound Canadian National local cars (L556) from Main 2 into the yard late-afternoon Tuesday, April 28, 2026. The crew pulled west toward the bridge, using it and the Southern Subdivision for headroom before shoving into the East Peoria Yard. IMRR 43 has 57 cars (25 loads, 32 empties).
 
Before sale to BioUrja Renewables LLC on November 1, 2021, CN locals were always heavy (even the short ones) with ADM-owned or lease covered hoppers. I believe these were regular shipments of corn screenings from the Wet Corn Mill at Decatur to the Peoria distillery (Cedar Rapids and Clinton, Iowa also shipped this product to Peoria).

Peoria Int'l Airport Air Service Detail & Analysis - July 2025

It is time for my annual update on local airline service.  A summer month is best for this update. I used July for 2024's update, and I have every reason to do so again this year. Barring last minute changes, the schedules and route map below are accurate. So let us delve into the present situation.  ALLEGIANT AIR Like last year, schedules for July 2025 show most flights operated with Airbus A320 equipment. They do not discern between 177-seat A320s or brand-new 186-seat A320SEOs. Smaller A319s, configured for 156 seats, are now only used on some Las Vegas and Punta Gorda flights. Brand new Boeing 737 Max 8-200 aircraft began appearing on St. Petersburg/Clearwater nonstops as early as February 2025 and are now also used on Orlando-Sanford nonstops. These aircraft are equipped with 190 seats.  Seasonal nonstops to Destin/Fort Walton Beach and year-round nonstops to Phoenix-Mesa and Punta Gorda have gained one weekly roundtrip each as compared to last year. Things Getting Worse for TP&W's Morton Industrial Lead

The sadness never ceases when it comes to dying railroad branchlines and their indifferent owners.  A quarter century ago, as interest in rail freight operations blossomed, I became familiar with a remnant of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway's Pekin District. The Toledo, Peoria & Western assumed operation of a middle portion of Santa Fe's only Illinois branchline through lease on July 8, 1983. Just less than six months later, TP&W was absorbed by its parent. Then on February 3, 1989, TP&W was reborn as a shortline. When TP&W first served Morton customers in 1983, there were three active customers - Caterpillar Tractor Co. (parts department), Libby, McNeil & Libby (canned pumpkin) and Morton Buildings (timber truss plant). Service was provided five days a week, Monday thru Friday, with an East Peoria-base Morton Switcher operating via Pekin Junction on Washington's east side.
